Cold August, Hot September?

Kids are heading back to school on Monday, which means summer is pretty much over. Normally, that would also mean that the real estate market is going to slow down for the fall and winter, but maybe not this year. Towards the close of August we are seeing low sales numbers in the Boise and Meridian areas, but we may be on the way back to a normal market.

Wait a second. I’ve written those words before.

Well according to an Idaho Statesman article, this time we really are headed back to normal. However, I have one objection to this article and to many of the recent articles published about the real estate market. The opinion of the market is coming from one real estate broker, not a consensus of brokers. Now, in this blog you only get one opinion too - mine. But you know that from the start.

The Statesman and other media sources give the public the impression of expertise and consensus. In this particular article, the broker makes a prediction that 600 homes will sell in September and that we’ve hit bottom in the slowing real estate market. Whether these predictions come true or not isn’t my point. My point is that when the media reports on the real estate market, they need to get a few more opinions and do a little more research. The last thing I want is for my clients to be calling me wondering why their home isn’t selling when the newspaper says the market is getting better.

With that said, I hope those predictions come true. This valley (and I) could use a little boost in the market right now. Will it happen?

  1. Thank you so much for your opinion, why people believe everything in print or on TV amazes me. I think we need to remember that most of want we see and hear are opinions and they will be influenced by what we what to see happen. Don’t you think?
